We make people feel emotions of Korea and pride through local Samulnori performances

In 2012, the Samulnori team was formed with the goal of helping Korean-American students in the U.S. feel an identity and pride as a Korean by learning Korean culture. It started with 11 students, and currently is operating in 2017 with 25 students.

Middle and high school students, involving about 25 students currently in 2017, meet up every week Saturday to receive instruction from Director Misuk Ko, and continue to progress day-by-day.
We will strive to continue Samulnori team while having more students interested in Korean culture.

Janggu Team

Janggu Team Regular Activities

In addition to the existing Samulnori, in October 2015 a Janggu team consisted of eight students living in San Ramon learned traditional dance matched to the Korean rhythms that the Janggu provides. Janggu team is a class where students can experience the beauty of Korean culture and form a pride in their identity through fine clothes and beautiful movements. During last year’s fall season, the students were able to quickly grasp dance and the janggu thanks to the effective leadership of Director Misook Ko in only three months since their start, and presented an excellent first preview of their team when they performed at the Hansamo Scholarship Awards Ceremony in December 2015.

Currently, the students are preparing dilligently for the next performance that will take place at the Oakland Coliseum A’s Stadium in May. It is going to be a spectacular decoration from the stage for Hansamo’s Korean Heritage Night.
