Honoring the Legacy of Patriots:
HANSAMO Performs at
the 118th Anniversary Commemoration

On March 21, the San Francisco & Bay Area Korea Center hosted a ceremony to commemorate the 118th anniversary of the historic act by Patriots Jang In-hwan and Jeon Myeong-un. Jointly organized by the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in San Francisco and the Korea Center, the event honored the sacrifice of these two independence activists and aimed to pass their spirit on to the next generation.

The ceremony opened with a powerful Samgomu (Three-Drum Dance) performance by Hansamo. Students Sophia Seo Yun Choi and Hyunah Joo, along with instructor Sophia (Hyori) Bek, set a solemn yet grand tone for the day's proceedings.

Following a joint floral tribute to the patriots, the ceremony detailed the lives and heroic deeds of Jang and Jeon, who fought for Korean sovereignty on American soil. The event was particularly meaningful as it connected history with the future through presentations and awards for local youth.

For Hansamo, participating in this commemoration was a moving experience. Performing at an event that honors those who sacrificed their lives for Korea’s independence allowed us to feel a profound connection to our history. It was a true honor to share Korean culture at such a significant and educational gathering.

Remembering our roots, building our future.
