Proud to Represent Korea at the Blackhawk Museum’s Mid-Autumn Festival!

Following our amazing experience last year, the Hansamo Dance, Nanta, and Pungmulnori teams were so grateful to be invited back to the Mid-Autumn Asian Cultural Festival at the Blackhawk Museum on October 3rd!

If you didn't know, the Mid-Autumn Festival is celebrated across many East Asian cultures. Because the bright, round full moon symbolizes family completion and togetherness, it’s all about family unity and giving thanks for the harvest. It was so cool to see this shared value come to life, as the museum became a giant celebration blending traditions from Korea, China, Japan, and Vietnam. While other groups brought out incredible lion dances and martial arts, Hansamo proudly joined this beautiful gathering to represent Korean culture and share the spirit of Chuseok with the community.

What made this year’s performance extra special was seeing how much our Hansamo family has grown. We have new, younger members who joined us this year, and it was absolutely amazing to watch them perform with so much confidence alongside the high school seniors. Seeing everyone blend together on stage was such a proud moment, and they did an incredible job standing tall as proud cultural ambassadors.

We brought everything we had to the museum to make that cultural connection happen:

  • Our Dance Team showed the graceful, elegant side of Korean culture with beautiful fluid movements.

  • The Pungmulnori Team got everyone moving with traditional gongs and folk rhythms that had the whole audience clapping along.

  • The Nanta Team completely energized the crowd with a loud, high-energy synchronized drumming set.

Getting to perform at the Blackhawk Museum for two years in a row has been such an honor. Seeing people from all different backgrounds smile and connect with our music reminds us of why we love doing this. We’re incredibly proud of everyone—from our newest members to our seniors—and we're already looking forward to next year!
